Cheryl Galpin

My love of fabric, sewing and making things has been with me throughout my life. Standing at my grandmother's knee when I was 5, watching while pieces of fabric became aprons, pot holders, tea cosies for the CWA stalls, began my journey into this colourful and textural world.

Fabrics I use come from India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, China and England, and are interspersed with hand painted fabric from Aboriginal Arts Centres, particularly Injalak Arts Gunbalanya. Preference is always towards natural fabrics - linen, cotton and silk - as the varying textures add sensory complexity while creating, along with the visual delight in the colours.

Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.
